About Us

Fidgets & Widgets Ltd was born in 2024 by Arts University Plymouth student Michele Azzopardi, who is both neurodivergent and works in the education sector. He saw the need for making fidget and sensory toys that were more than the plasticy 'throwaway' things that you saw in pound shops and online. With a background in 3d design, and an art practice using 3d printing technology, Michele saw the opportunity to make something unique, Cognitive Focus Devices that were more environmentally friendly than those made of petroleum-based polymers, which will inevitably end up in landfills.

Michele's research led him to two pedagogical theories, Universal Design Learning and Differential Instruction, both designed as dynamic teaching methods that are student-first aligned. Working with educators, neurodivergent groups, sustainability experts, med students and NHS workers alike, Michele started to curate a catalogue of sensory devices that would not just benefit the users, but the planet too.

Our designs are inspired by both lived experiences and academic research. We explore the science behind sensory regulation, studying how different textures, shapes, and movements can help individuals stay engaged, calm, or focused in various environments. Our research also extends into real-world applications, including stroke rehabilitation (via NHS staff and medical students), PTSD support (Michele is ex-Armed Forces), and educational settings

At the core of our mission is a simple belief: everyone deserves access to tools that help them navigate the world in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.
